MAPA Economic Development DistrictIn 2007, Metropolitan Area Planning Agency received designation by the US Department of Commerce - Economic Development Administration as the officially recognized Economic Development District (EDD) serving MAPA's five member counties and their cities. This is an important designation as it allows our agency to help formulate and implement economic development programs in the five-county region that will create or retain full-time permanent jobs and improve employment opportunities in areas of economic distress. Key benefits for MAPA as a result of EDD designation include access to funding assistance from EDA for implementation of planning activities and technical assistance to MAPA members, increased viability of applications for EDA funding assistance for specific programs and projects, and support for region-wide coordination of economic development strategic planning in the MAPA region.
